Childhood Stressor: Hunger

I have met a few people that have gone through hunger. The parent lost their job, and not receiving any type of benefits and they have to watch their meals. I watch my children, that I work with, and I can tell when something isn't right with them. One of my kids was eating everybody's breakfast when they others went to story time. I spoke to them and they told me that they hadn't eaten since yesterday and they only had a slice of bread and a small piece of meat. My heart fell to the floor. I could not imagine not being able to feed my kids. I gave the parents information for Food Banks and I hoped I was able to help.
When researching other countries I found a website that showed the top 10 hungriest countries. Central African Republic came in number 1. There are over 2 billion people suffering from lack of food. They are war and poverty stricken. There are lack of jobs and crime and disease is at a all time high. These things alone are a lot of stressors that affect small children. I attached the link so you can go look at all top 10.
I have been through this before too with children in childcare not having enough food at home. I would always tell the cook to cook a little bit more and tell the teachers to give the children seconds if they wanted more because some of them don't eat when they get home.
I truly appreciate you providing a link which provides information on the top 10 countries that have a large hunger population. I wonder about the resources for food as well as how the country can be assisted in the medical field to provide care for the people who reside there. Without the proper resources, there may also be an increase in the amount of deaths per year.
It's so important that you are aware of the children in your classroom who may have issues which may impact their school environment. There are often times when things may go unnoticed and the child may fear sharing personal information.
