Early Child Care and Inequities

Johnson-Staub (2017), "Young children who are ethnic or racial minorities experience higher poverty rates than their white counterparts. Historical and institutionalized racism, which manifests in systemic and structural barriers to equitable access to opportunity, lead to pronounced disparities in socio-economic experiences for a large share of America’s children. In 2015, 4.2 million young children under age 5 (21 percent) lived in poverty. Nearly half of young children lived in low-income families below 200 percent of federal poverty" (Systemic Disparities for Children of Color).

This article was on point with the things we have been learning this week. Inequities in early childhood education is very prevalent in today's systems. It seems that based off of the article and the resources for this week, the minorities are the ones that face these inequities more than any other race. They are faced with many disadvantages because of their poverty level and inability to afford the same as the Caucasian community. There is going to have to be a change in the system and policies in order for a change to be seen. The government must remember that all children and families have a right to quality education.

Hello,

I like that you pointed out that the government must remember that all children and families have the right to quality education. I think that the keyword there is quality, many children are attending schools that not quality schools and that needs to change. All children should be given a quality education no matter where they live or who they are.
