Exploring Roles in the ECE Community: Local and State Levels

Some organizations that caught my interest are :

Porter-Leath

Memphis Child Advocacy Center

Children and Family Enrichment

These are all nonprofit organizations that provide a service to children and families of low income areas. Porter-Leath offers reading programs to children and also they provide books for each stage of the child's development. The other sites listed help with abuse and also empowering the family .

I saw jobs for therapists, There were several positions of interest at Porter-Leath. They need bilingual parent educator, early headstart teacher and relief teacher. These positions, I feel, help empower families and also help educate children. This aligns with my goal. i would need to, first, learn the language. I am not bilingual, but I would love to be. This will make me valuable to the employers. I also nee d to obtain a educator's license.

Hi Dorothy,

I love your thinking and the ways you are researching to see the options you have to help the children become successful.

Hello Dorothy,

There are so many diverse positions when thinking of how we can serve the early childhood community. I have been having visions of returning to the classroom. After a long hiatus, it is time. Before this, I was extremely interested in exploring a parent strategist position. I am a bit linguistically challenged when it comes to conversational Spanish. I can assist a child around the room, but cannot hold a conversation with them or the family.

Enjoyed reading and responding,

Travis

Good morning Dorothy,

Bilingual skills are an important asset to possess in any field. The diversity in America is growing decade over decade. I have known several people who gained a second language through the help of Rosetta Stone, although they reported using the language in your day-to-day life is the most effective support.

The Porter-Leath reading program you mentioned seems very interesting, something I would enjoy. Providing families with literature and resources is a valuable part of early childhood advocacy. Thank you for your post. I enjoyed reading.

Hi Dorothy,

Bilingualism is extremely important now days. With the vast population being diverse, I believe that it has become a necessity. Where I am from, bilingualism is key. I really like the organizations that you have shown. I really wish there were more organizations in the Northern Mariana Islands that cater to helping low-income families, but I guess that is why we must take action. Thank you for sharing!

Hi Dorothy,

I would love to be bilingual also. I am having difficulty picking up Spanish as a second language. It would be so beneficial in my current position. I work with many families and children who do not speak English.

The Child Advocacy Center sounds interesting. What types of positions do they have?
