For this observation, I watched a mother talk to her 3yr old son at a park, He had a very huge vocabulary. It was like watching two adults talk. I was very impressed. She did not try to use little words like: doody or baba, etc.). She was using actual words. When she called him her baby he said, " I'm not a baby. I'm a man." It was really funny. The conversation was direct and not aggressive. It was very respectful .
I don't think that there is anything that I would have done differently. If she was speaking to him differently, I would have more to say, but this was oddly a great observation between mother and child.
Dorothy,
Conversations with a child is one of the most amazing and beautiful things that can happen in a child's development. When we mix that with vocabulary development, it is great! If you had the chance to communicate with them during your observation, how would you offer some assistance in fostering the child's development? Thanks for sharing!
