Testing for Intelligence

In measuring young children and their development, I think that tests and assessments give a good idea on where they are cognitively. School age children take tests and skills assessments that measure their development and whether they are on schedule or in need of help.

I chose to look at Finland and how they assess a child's development educationally. Like the United States, they utilize tests to measure their child's development. It says that the United States does not score as well as Finland when it comes to Math. Finland uses a test called PISA to measure their students. They provide their students with options at the age of 6 on what type of school they will attend for a year. This is interesting because in the US, if the child is not going to private school they must attend a school in their district.

I found this to be very interesting. I have attached a link if you want to read about Finland.

Dorthy I truly appreciate you providing information on the Finland assessment for intelligence. There are may different methods for testing students. Some curriculums, such as the British curriculum, is assessment driven and assesses students frequently. Other curriculums assess students periodically for intelligence at the end of a unit for example. It's interesting that students are provided placement tests at the age of 6 in Finland and in america children begin school based on their age in the public school system. There are private schools which require entry exams for placement.
