The newsletter, https://www.childrensdefense.org/, I subscribed to focuses on different issues such as:
Child Poverty
· Child Health
· Early Childhood
· Education
· Child Welfare
· Youth Justice
· Gun Violence
The site has many different policies, but one of them that I focused on was child poverty. This organization fights for helping families get adequate healthcare, fighting to end hunger and many other issues. They back SNAP programs and other economic assistance for low income families.
This statement really brought some things into perspective:
According to Children's Defense Fund Leave No Child Behind (2020), "More than 30 million people have lost their jobs since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, and millions of children could fall into poverty if Congress fails to meet this unprecedented challenge. Without robust federal support, one study estimates that child poverty could balloon from an already shameful 13.6 percent to nearly 21 percent, with Black and Latino children bearing a disproportionate risk of falling into or deeper into poverty."

Children's Defense Fund is a great organization. That organization covers a lot of things that deals with the children. It is very important that we as people and as educators know how to handle things and be there for the children. This is an organization that could help parents if they needed help with something. Great job.
Hello,
I am not familiar with children's defense, but it seems like they focus on a ton of issues going on right now. I love that you are connecting children's poverty with the issues that are currently going on in the world. I was affected by the virus and temporarily lost my job and trying to receive help during that time was a struggle. I am fortunate to be working once again, but this is unprecedented times and who knows what could happen next.

Hi Dorothy,
I am fairly unfamiliar with the Children's Defense Fund. It was known that your blog would be a useful introductory guide. It is fortunate we have such programs and yet unfortunate there is such need for them. Thanks for your post.
